Move and Groove: The Power of Physical Theatre

We’ve all seen silent films. The actors used their faces and bodies to tell the story, without speaking a single word. That’s the magic of physical theatre! It’s a form of performance that uses movement, gesture and mime to tell the story. And it’s a fantastic way for children to develop their physical and creative skills.

Why Physical Theatre is a Game-Changer
Physical theatre involves a lot of movement, from simple gestures to complex dance routines. This helps children develop their co-ordination, balance, and agility. By exploring different body positions and movements, children gain a better understanding of their bodies. This can improve their posture, flexibility, and overall physical health as well as encouraging children to think creatively and express themselves in new ways. They can create characters, develop storylines and design movements to convey emotions.

Physical Theatre helps students to develop a better sense of space and how to navigate it, too. Great for the stage, but this can also benefit them in sports, dance and everyday life.

And most importantly at StageAbility, working with other students on physical theatre projects can help children develop teamwork, communication and empathy skills.

StageAbility drama classes have always included physical theatre exercises and creative projects. After over 15 years teaching drama to children aged 5 to 18, we see the results every week and – let’s not forget – physical theatre is also really engaging to watch as an audience.

If you would like your child to be part of something positive and physical every week, why not book a free trial class for them to try it out?
